Duff & Phelps Investment Management Co. pays tribute to Claire V. Hansen
July 30, 2009
Nathan I. Partain, president and chief investment officer of Duff & Phelps Investment Management Co., today issued the following statement about the passing of Claire V. Hansen, former director, chief executive officer and chairman of the company:
“We are saddened by the loss of Claire Hansen, who was a dear friend and colleague, and a trusted mentor to many of us at Duff & Phelps Investment Management. The entire staff and management team, as well as the members of the boards of the DNP Select Income Fund, extend our deepest condolences to his family, particularly his wife, Renee, their three sons, Charles, Christopher and Peter, and their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Claire joined the company in 1959 when it was then part of Duff & Phelps Corp. and he spent the rest of his career with the same company. He had an innate understanding of the asset management business, and moved through the ranks of the company until being named chairman of the board of Duff & Phelps Investment Management Co. in 1985.
He was also the founding chairman and a member of the board of the DNP Select Income Fund and was a guiding force for the fund, which was the largest IPO of its kind at the time it was organized in 1986. He retired from the fund board in 2005.
Claire was immensely generous with his time and talents, particularly with community organizations in the Chicago area and later in Naples, Florida. He was an active board member and president of several non-profit organizations, and approached his participation in the community with the same energy and dedication that he poured into his career. These organizations truly benefited from his distinguished leadership.
Like many others at Duff & Phelps Investment Management, I had the good fortune of working closely with Claire for many years, and I can say unequivocally that we are all much richer for the experience.”
